What is a Dermaplaning Facial?
Dermaplaning facials are a safe and effective way to physical exfoliate the skins surface. A sterile surgical scalpel, and a special technique are used to gently “surf” or “shave” the skins surface. This removes the layer of dead skin cells at the upmost of the skins surface, and the peachy fuzz (known as vellus hair).
Dermaplaning facials can be repeated as frequently as every few weeks, in your lunch hour as there is no downtime. Exfoliation of the skin helps promote the cell regeneration process and allows skin care products to be more effective. Vellus hair which can collect dirt and oils, dulling the skin is also removed. Vellus, soft hair unlike hair on the rest of our bodies (terminal hair) will not grow back thicker or darker - this is purely an old wives tale.
To further boost your skin, we recommend the addition of our LED mask (light therapy). Loved by Kim Kardashian, and Jessica Alba, LED Light therapy has a number of benefits. Which include combating the signs of ageing, nourishing the dermal and deeper lying epidermal cells epidermal cells, speeding up the turnover of skin cells
Why do celebrities love Dermaplaning?
Shaving your face? What? Yes! Celebrities love it. Lots of A listers "shave" their faces, to remove dead skin and vellous hair. This makes make up application super smooth and easy - a great look for the red carpet.
Who are Dermaplaning facials for?
Dermaplaning is for almost everyone, although those with rougher, dryer skin or those with mature skin may benefit the most. Pregnant or breastfeeding clients can also have the treatment, when other chemical exfoliating treatments may not be suitable. It is not suitable for those with active acne.
Will Dermaplaning make my hair grow back darker or thicker?
No. This is actually physiologically impossible. The hair growing on our bodies is different types. Vellus hair "peach fuzz", grows back the same size and shape after being Dermaplaned, the main structure of vellus hair does not change and is not altered by Dermaplaning.
Can't I do this at home?
Dermaplaning should only be carried out by qualified professionals. The technique required is specific to ensure that the results are good and there is minimal risk to the skin. Dermaplaning tools are surgical steel scalpels, which are much sharper than most razors.
Who can't have Dermaplaning facials?
Dermaplaning is suitable for most skin types, with the exception of those with active acne. Dermaplaning can still be carried out on pregnant or breastfeeding women. Those that are taking blood thinning medication, or those with insulin dependent diabetes are not suitable for Dermaplaning.
Dermaplaning - After Care Advice
Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation of the skin. Your skin will be left smooth and hair free. Because the upper layers of dead skin have been sloughed away, your skin can be more sensitive to light. Your skin will have been treated with an SPF cream prior to you leaving the clinic.
